LEAP Matter Types are all legally researched and designed to apply to the relevant Area of Law. They are pre-configured to provide everything you need when running a matter.

Our Matter Types are like templates that enable you to quickly create electronic matters in LEAP, replicating the concept of a paper file. You can easily store client information, correspondence, emails, important dates, documents, and accounts in one electronic and searchable matter.

When you create a new matter in LEAP, everything including the areas of law, the Matter Type name, the selection of different Tables, Cards, Critical Dates, Layouts, Fields, Relines and more, all display by default as set by the LEAP Content Development team.

This data entered into each matter becomes the foundation of all customisations in LEAP as data only needs to be entered once. This enables Forms and Precedents to automatically incorporate data from the matter to perform complex calculations and form automation.

LEAP provide a series of action-orientated Critical Dates for a particular matter type.

Critical Dates capture milestone events allowing firms to track and manage important dates, ensuring effective matter management.

Used and accessed in the Calendar & Tasks tab of the LEAP matter, Critical Dates fully integrate with Microsoft Outlook when you create an appointment for the Critical Date.

Every matter created in LEAP has a set of Tables which are specific to that particular Matter Type. They are all legally researched, created and structured into the matter type by the Content Development team.

There are two types of tables that appear in your matter, Card Tables and Standard Tables.

Card Tables

A Card-Based Table allows you to input information about parties in a matter, distinguishing between individuals and organisations, with slight differences between these Card Types. They include predefined Fields specific to the Card Type, focusing on names and contact details. A good example of the Card used across multiple matters is the “Court card”, which contains all information about the Court, the Court's name, address, and phone number etc.

Standard Tables

A Standard Table is a data entry Table, referred to as a Layout, that is available in a matter. The Layout comprises Fields that may be data entry points or information that is calculated based on other Fields, called Calculated Fields. A Layout allows you to enter information relevant only to that matter, that is then used to automate documents. An example of Layout Table used to collect data relevant to just that matter is the “Court details” where the court number, division and list etc are filled out and relevant to only that matter.

Layout Tables contain the word “details” as a suffix in the Table name to help you distinguish between Card Tables and Standard Tables.

The Content Development Team create all of the Fields and Calculations that appear on each Layout.  

In your matter, all the Fields that are being requested for you to fill out on the Standard Tables are created by the Content Development team. This also applies to any document that is created through LEAP.

The team also creates Calculations for the data you have entered in the matter, such as calculating the sum of two amounts, or calculating a due date based on other dates entered in the matter, or calculating the Relines for your letters based on your Matter Type.

When you create a Form or Document Type such as a letter, it will be automated using Fields and Calculations that are available for insertion into Word documents as content controls supported by Microsoft.

LEAP provides a wide range of legal documents, including court and government Forms, formatted and then coded using LEAP Document Automation with Fields, Questions and Calculations, utilising content controls supported by Microsoft.

When an automated Form or Document is generated, it will populate from the relevant data that is entered in Cards and Layouts in the LEAP matter. 

This seamless integration means legal documents are produced quickly, accurately and stress free, eliminating costly manual mistakes and saving countless hours of manual work.

LEAP provide several Quick Calculators to provide fast and accurate information instantly, further eliminating the need for complex manual calculations.

They allow you to remain productive while they remain within LEAP to complete the calculations.

Quick Calculators usually appear under the LEAP Menu > Other > Quick Calculators tab but also appear in some Field Calculations and on certain Layouts in Matter Types.

They are created and maintained by the LEAP Content Development team.
