Manage Special Fees in LEAP Desktop with easy creation, attachment, and duplication. Follow simple steps, such as applying fees to matters or cards and deleting or duplicating for staff members.

Create a Special Fee

Follow these steps to set a special fee (hourly rate) for a staff member:

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.
Click New on the Special Fees window.

The Special Fee window will open.
Enter the Display Name.
Select whether the special fee will be applicable for a certain Staff Member, a specific Activity Code or a combination of both.
Enter a Billing Rate Override, either as a selected Staff Rate Type or Custom Rate.
Click Save & Close.

Attach a Special Fee to a Matter

To apply a special fee (billing rates) to a specific matter, follow these steps:

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.

Click to edit heading

Click New in the bottom left corner of the Special Fees window to create a new fee.
Right-click the special fee and select Apply to matters.
Tick the matter(s) from the Select Matters window.
Click Select.

This allows you to modify the hourly rate for a staff member within a specific LEAP matter.

Attach a Special Fee to a Card

To apply a special fee (billing rates) to a specific card, follow these steps:

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.
Right-click the special fee and select Apply to cards.
Select the matter(s) from the Select Cards window.
Click Select.

Disable the Use of a Special Fee for a Matter

Open the matter.
Click LEAP Accounting.

LEAP Accounting will open in a new window.
Click the ellipsis button and select Special Fees.
Select None in the Special Fees window.
Click Save & Close.

Remove a Special Fee from a Matter

Open the matter.
Click LEAP Accounting.

LEAP Accounting will open in a new window.
Click the ellipsis button and select Special Fees.
Right-click the special fee and select Delete.
Click Save & Close.

Remove a Special Fee from a Card

Open the card.
Click the ellipsis and select Special Fees.
Right-click the special fee and select Delete.
Click Save & Close.

Show Assigned Matters

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.
Right-click the special fee and select Show assigned matters.

Show Assigned Cards

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.
Right-click the special fee and select Show assigned cards.

Duplicate a Special Fee

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.
Right-click the special fee and select Duplicate for staff member.
Select the staff member(s).
Click Select.

Delete a Special Fee

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.
Right-click the special fee and select Delete.
Confirm the deletion.

Restore a Deleted Special Fee

Click the LEAP Menu > Accounting > under General Accounting > Special Fees.
Click the ellipsis and select View deleted.
Right-click the special fee and select Undelete.

Changing a Staff Member’s Special Fees Rate

Changing a staff member’s Special Fees rate does not automatically update past Time & Fees entries. Only new Time Entries will reflect the updated Special Fees rate. If you need existing Time Entries to reflect the new Special Fees rate, you must manually adjust them, and then create a New Invoice.

View Special Fees from a Matter

To view Special Fees from a Matter, follow these steps:

Open the matter.
Click LEAP Accounting.

LEAP Accounting will open in a new window.
From the Time & Fees tab, click the ellipsis and select Special Fees.

After opening the Special Fees window from a matter, you can click Attach Special Fee to add a new special fee to the matter.

Create a Special Fee

Click > Accounting > under General > Special Fees.
Click New Special Fee.
Enter the Name.
Select whether the special fee will be applicable for a certain Staff, a specific Activity Code or a combination of both.
Enter a Rate Override, either as a selected Staff Rate Type or Custom Rate.
Click Save.

Attach a Special Fee to a Matter

Open the matter.
Click on the Matter Details tab to open the Additional Matter Details window.

Select Special Fees.
Make sure Enable Special Fees is toggled On.
Select the Use Special Fees associated to this matter option.
Select the special fee.
Click Update.
Click Save.

Attach a Special Fee to a Card

Open the card.
Click Special Fees under Notes & Other.
Select the special fee.
Click Update.
Click Save.

Disable the Use of a Special Fee for a Matter

Open the matter.
Click on the Matter Details tab to open the Additional Matter Details window.

Select Special Fees.
Toggle Enable Special Fees Off.
Click Save.

Remove a Special Fee from a Matter

Open the matter.
Click on the Matter Details tab to open the Additional Matter Details window.

Select Special Fees.
Select the Use Special Fees associated to this matter option.
Untick the special fee.
Click Update.
Click Save.

Remove a Special Fee from a Card

Open the card.
Click Special Fees under Notes & Other.
Untick the special fee.
Click Update.
Click Save.

Delete a Special Fee

Click > Accounting > under General > Special Fees.
Clicknext to the special fee.
Click Delete.

Restore a Deleted Special Fee

Click > Accounting > under General > Special Fees.
Click and select View Deleted Items.
Click next to the deleted special fee to restore selected fee.
