How To

How we enter a disbursement in LEAP will vary depending on the type of disbursement we are recording. This article details how each disbursement is entered and when each method should be used.

Expense Recovery

If you are looking to enter a soft cost in LEAP, navigate to the Matter’s General Accounting tab and go to the Expense Recovery section to enter a New Expense Recovery. Expense Recoveries are used for in-house soft costs such as photocopies, scanning, postage, etc.

General Accounting Pay Expense

If you are looking to enter a hard disbursement where the law firm paid a third party on behalf of the client out of the general bank, navigate to the Matter’s General Accounting tab and go to the Expense & Receivables sub-tab. Use the Pay Expense button. Once saved, this payment will sync to QuickBooks.

Anticipated Expense

In a scenario where the firm is looking to invoice the client for a hard disbursement prior to making the payment out of the firm's general bank, the Anticipated Expense is used in LEAP. From the Matter’s General Accounting tab, navigate to the Anticipated Expenses section to enter a New Anticipated Expense.
